Fire Alarm Technician/Programmer II

This position is critical to our business, which is 80% commercial fire alarm work.  Our field techs experience a variety of systems and every kind of issue.  Must like variety, independent work, and local driving daily.  Overnights are rare.  At least two years of fire alarm experience and NICET Level II Fire Alarm Systems certification required.   Starting pay is negotiable, between $20/hour and $32/hour, depending on experience and certifications.

Job Description:

This is an hourly position, responsible for supporting our American Alarms' strategic goals. Create and develop relationships supportive of the American Alarms mission statement with employees and customers. Deliver software solutions and field support to our customers. Maintain and grow the “Customer for Life” concept for existing and new customers.

 

Specific Job Functions:

 

+ Primary focus is Commercial, Office, Data Centers, Government, Industrial, Healthcare, ,Apartment and Education market.

 

+ This is a field position with the main goal is to handle all aspects of service, wireless device installation, programming and startup of Fire Alarm systems and related systems.

 

+ Desired candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of proven work in commercial Fire Alarm systems and must have proven troubleshooting skills with a meter and relay contact logic.

 

+ Program all Fire Alarm systems software and associated security services via their custom software application packages.

 

+ Ensures customer satisfaction by continual follow-up, communication skills and 100% final checkout of service and construction jobs you are assigned.

 

+ Provide sales support as needed to assist project manager / sales to obtain more work. Assists in customer demos, estimating work, product application information and providing leads.

 

+ Have the drive to be the technical expert for our solutions and be willing to continue to learn our systems and stay in the field with customers. 

 

+ Run Service calls to help keep our systems up and running with quick response and thorough checkout. American Alarms may supply a Van, Cell Phone, tools and laptop as necessary to complete field work.

 

+ Provide as built documentation for operation and maintenance after a project is complete.

 

+ Attend turnover meetings between sales, engineering and field discussing project scope, safety, timelines, etc.

 

+ You will be required to produce your NICET 1 and 2 Fire Alarm Systems certifications and to maintain your State of Iowa Alarm License.  To work in Des Moines and West Des Moines, you will also need city licenses.  American Alarms pays for all necessary licenses and your first NICET test at each level.

 

+ You will be part of a weekly On-Call schedule which is adjustable but currently once every 4 weeks. American Alarms pays technicians for being on call, as well as the applicable rate when customers request site visits.

 

+ We do work all over Iowa. Our technicians must be agreeable to traveling overnight on rare occasions to install or startup a system that is out of town.

 

+ You will be required to obtain your 10 HR OSHA certification within the 1st year.

 

+ American Alarms will supply American Alarms shirts that must be worn at all times so that we all stay consistent with an image of American Alarms.

 

Basic Requirements of this position:

 

+ Daily and periodic communication with Scheduler to keep your appointments and daily activity up to date.

 

+ Must be able to climb a ladder and be able to lift a 30 pound box safely.

 

+ Must adhere to American Alarms Safety Policies

 

+ Normal Business Hours are 8:00 to 5:00 Monday through Friday.

 

+ You must have a valid driver’s license as per our insurance requirements, as well as having a good driving record.

 

+ Excellent Customer Interaction Skills.
